TextExpander (Legacy) App Reviews

No support for BT keyboard.

Well, it was promised that this app would support snippets entered from a separate BT keyboard. Regular TextExpander wasnt doing it, so I bought this app in order to have this feature, so I could use my new BT keyboard and type faster. It does not do it. At least with my keyboard. I will be contacting Apple to get my money back.

With any hope, Smile will read the reviews of their apps...

Hopefully Smile reads the reviews of the software they charge for on the app store. This Text Expander is perfectly fine the way it is for iOS - and the new one is a shameless money-grab with little to no updates in features. In fact, the new/other Text Expander iOS app is MORE LIMITED than this one in user features/options. ---- Differences between this version and the new one: - THIS app allows you to sync your snippets via various reputable cloud services, (Dropbox, iCloud, etc.) - THE NEW APP limits you to just using this companys own service for syncing your snippets - and theyre charging MONTHLY for you to do so. On top of all this, the new app saves content you type repeatedly as "suggested snippets" - so if you type your login passwords to literally anything like your email or whatever - guess what, its saved in this companys servers and theres not one thing you can do about it... Now that you have most of the information you need, hopefully you will also express the frustration youre entitled to if you have ever used this software before.

A protection racket

Gut the product I already bought, and tell me that I can buy a new one that works more or less as the old one did, as long as I continue to pay my protection money? No, thanks; the app had some degree of utility during the 3 or so years I used it, but Im going to find an alternative. See ya; would rather not be ya.

Hate the new business model

I dont want another Software as a Service subscription.

Not ready for prime time

Cant transfer my snippets from my Mac to my iphone. The app is so frustrating that I removed it from my iPhone.

Not good yet

Small and unconfortable keyboard. There is no support for portuguese brazilian. Some text are not working when I put my abreviation (in my Mac works)

There is no support for portuguese

There no support for portuguese

It wont sync

I connect on Dropbox for syncing but it doesnt sync with my mac. Also I cannot choose a dropbox folder to sync.

Bug?

The update deleted all my snippets! What the hell?

Great idea!

TextExpander systemwide! Apples new Keyboard Extension feature is really great and TextExpander touch is the app it was made for!

Useless...

...because on iOS the functionality is limited to the few apps that directly support Textexpander or the apps own keyboard. That wouldnt be so bad if only the keyboard actually worked. In practice it is so completely bug-ridden that it is unusable. As always the smile is too lazy to update the application. Dont buy this. Textexpander was great on OS X (even classic before) but is almost useless on IOS.

Keyboard

Functionality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Design: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ App works fine but the standard keyboard should be the same one as the one that pops up if one triggers spotlight. (also looks better) The actual keyboard is a nuisance to write with -.-

Major bug with Fill In Snippets

Not usable right now.

Overrated

This app cant ever be a success until its genuinely integrated in iOS. Its fine in the apps that actively support it, but otherwise its useless. Like all third party keyboards, the keyboard is so much worse than the stock iOS keyboard that I quickly abandoned it in frustration. The benefits of text expansion are totally negated by inaccuracy, no prediction, no functional autocorrect and no force touch.

Been using this app for years.

On every apple device. This update makes it indispensable.

Does not work

When adding textexpander to my keyboard, I try it with Mail and... Nothing but a blank keyboard ! Removed it. Reinstalled. Same thing. Please fix this. After a few more tries it worked. But it doesnt look smooth.

Not happy with the size of the keys

Ive been waiting for this app since I got my first iPhone, and it works like I expected, but... The keys are oddly small and my typing errors have tripled on my iPhone, so much so that I turned it off. Why cant the keys be the same size as the built-in keyboard?

Not there yet...

Though I understand the difficulties Apple has placed on 3rd-party keyboard developers, the keyboard just isnt good enough to use right now. The keys dont respond as youd like. Im not sure if this is an issue with touch targets or autocorrection but it really hurts usability. Even if youre just using the keyboard to enter snippets. Also, please keep working on the TE SDK for developers, those of us with external keyboard for the iPad need this functionality.

Still needs work

Been waiting for true TE integration for awhile but the keyboard is not good. Too small and doesnt fill the screen on the iPhone 6+. Plus some snippets dont work properly.

Pretty good

I like it. Integrates well. Decent options. Occasionally Ill be typing with the iOS keyboard & this one will suddenly turn on mid paragraph. Odd but no big issue. Not a fan of the colour. Would prefer the standard iOS keyboard greys. The keys seems to be spaced slightly different than the default KB... My typing errors from next key over syndrome skyrocket when using TextExpander. Learning curve I suppose. All in all worth the money. Looking forward to updates.
